Handing over to the customer

Let the customer pay for themselves: hand their devices over. They become the owner, and you keep managing them.

Want a customer to pay the subscription for their BoilerBuddy Alpo themselves? Hand their devices over to them: they become the owner and pay, and you keep managing the devices.

Handing over is done by an owner or admin of the installer.

Who pays

You decide per customer, and you can still hand over later.

  • You pay. The devices stay yours and are on your subscription. The customer has access to view them (see Customer access), and you pass the cost on yourself.
  • The customer pays. You hand the devices over, and they are on the customer's subscription.

Before you hand over

  • Give the customer access first. You hand over to someone who has access to the customer and is not a member of your company.
  • Agree on the subscription. After the handover it depends on the customer whether the data stays visible (see below).

Handing over

  1. Go to Customers and open the customer.
  2. On the People tab, under Hand over to the customer, pick someone who has access under To whom.
  3. Choose the button with the number of devices, for example Offer 3 devices, and confirm.

All of the customer's devices that are still yours are offered at once. Until the customer takes them over, they stay yours. You withdraw an offer per device, on the device's page under Hand over.

The customer gets no email, only a notification in the bell. So let them know something is waiting. On their Devices page, under Devices offered to you, they choose Take over or Decline.

After the handover

  • The customer is the owner. The device is on their subscription, at the same price. It comes off your subscription from that moment.
  • You keep managing it, with all your technicians. You can view it and set it up: name, location, circuit, installation details and alerts.
  • The customer handles sharing, handing over, deleting and pairing again. If the Alpo needs pairing again, the customer does that.
  • On the customer page the device shows Handed over, at the same branch. Everyone who had access keeps it.
  • The customer sees your company on the device's page under Shared with. If they stop that sharing, you lose access.

The customer's subscription

A new account has a 30-day trial from sign-up. If the customer doesn't start a subscription after that, the devices are locked, for the customer and for you, and no alerts go out. The Alpo keeps measuring. See Billing and subscription.

A personal account normally holds at most 5 devices, but what you hand over doesn't count towards that.

Handing over a single device

On a device's Settings tab, under Hand over, choose Hand over:

  1. Enter the E-mail of the new owner. It has to be an existing account.
  2. Leave Keep managing it as installer on if you still need access afterwards.
  3. Choose Offer handover.

If the device is under a customer, it stays there, even if you give it to someone else, and everyone with access to that customer keeps seeing it. So only hand it to someone from that customer.

When the customer passes the device on

If the customer sells their house, they can hand the device over to the new occupant themselves. It then disappears from the customer page, and the customer and everyone with access to the customer no longer see it. You keep access until the new owner stops the sharing.
