Getting started

Pairing with a code

Linking the BoilerBuddy Alpo to your account with its pairing code, and a new Alpo to an existing device.

You link the BoilerBuddy Alpo to your account with its pairing code. From then on its readings show up in your portal.

An installer can also do this for you.

Finding the pairing code

As long as the Alpo is not paired, the code is on its status page.

  1. Make sure the Alpo has power and is connected to your router with the network cable.
  2. On your phone or computer, on the same network, open the address on the Alpo's sticker: http://boilerbuddy-xxxx.local, with your Alpo's four characters instead of xxxx.
  3. You see Koppel je Alpo (pair your Alpo) with a code like BB-7KQ4-M2XD. The status page is in Dutch for now.

Does the address not open? Not every phone knows .local addresses. Look up the IP address of boilerbuddy-xxxx in your router and open that, for example http://192.168.1.20.

A code is valid for 24 hours. After that, a new one appears on the page by itself.

Pairing your Alpo

  1. In the portal, go to Devices and choose New device.
  2. Fill in the Device name, for example "Solar water heater".
  3. Choose BoilerBuddy Alpo as the Device type.
  4. Enter your Alpo's pairing code under Pairing code (optional). Upper or lower case, spaces and dashes don't matter.
  5. Choose Add device.

You then land on Choose your circuit. Choose it straight away: without a circuit the Alpo doesn't know what to read. See Circuit and installation details.

Within half a minute the Alpo collects its key and your device shows Online. The status page then says it is paired. You can open that page any time: it shows whether the Alpo is measuring and can send.

A new Alpo for the same device

Replacing your Alpo? Pair the new one with your existing device, so your readings stay together. Go to Devices, choose the device and, on Settings under Connection, choose Pair with code. Enter the code from the new Alpo's status page and choose Pair. The previous Alpo can no longer send anything.

If it does not work

The portal shows these messages in Dutch for now.

  • "Deze koppelcode is onbekend of verlopen." (code unknown or expired) Check that you copied the code correctly. If it is older than 24 hours, refresh the status page: a new one is already there.
  • "Te veel onjuiste codes." (too many wrong codes) Wait the number of minutes it mentions, then try again.
  • The status page says BoilerBuddy no longer recognises the Alpo, for example because you deleted the device in the portal? Contact us: pairing again from the page itself is not possible yet.
