Getting started

Connecting the Alpo

Connecting the BoilerBuddy Alpo to your controller, your router and power, and checking that it works.

The BoilerBuddy Alpo goes next to your solar water heater's controller. You plug in three cables and it starts measuring by itself.

Rather not do it yourself? An installer from the installer directory can do it for you.

Connecting

  1. USB to the controller. A USB cable from the Alpo to your controller's USB port. That is how it reads the controller.
  2. Network cable to your router. There is nothing to set up, not even on your router. Wi-Fi will follow later.
  3. Power. Plug it into a power socket. The Alpo starts by itself, also after a power cut.

Just leave the Alpo on and don't unplug it when you don't need to.

Next, link it to your account: see Pairing with a code.

What the Alpo does

  • It only watches. The Alpo reads your controller and never changes anything on it. Your solar water heater works as it always has, even when the Alpo is off.
  • It measures every minute: the temperatures of your collector and tank, and whether the pump is running.
  • No gaps when the internet drops. It keeps measuring and sends everything later. Your chart then fills itself in.

Checking that it works

In the portal, go to Devices, choose your device and look at Connection on Settings. If it says Online, all is well. Last seen shows when the Alpo last reported.

Does it say Offline or Never seen? Check that the Alpo has power, that the network cable is plugged in firmly and that you have paired it.

The Alpo also has its own status page, at the address on its sticker: http://boilerbuddy-xxxx.local. Open it on a phone or computer on your own network. It shows whether the Alpo is paired, measuring and able to send, with its latest readings (in Dutch for now).
