BoilerBuddy

For installers

Organization and technicians

Your company owns the devices. Who may do what, inviting colleagues, switching between your own account and the installer, and alerts per member.

With your colleagues you fit the BoilerBuddy Alpo for customers and keep an eye on their installations. Each person's role decides what they may do.

The company is the owner

A device you add while working in the installer belongs to the company and is on the company's subscription. When a colleague leaves, you remove them from the members and they can no longer reach anything.

Everyone also has a personal account for their own devices at home, with its own subscription and at most 5 devices. An installer has no maximum.

  • A technician pairs the Alpo when adding it, with the pairing code on the Alpo's status page, the address on its sticker (see Pairing with a code). Pairing again later is done by an owner or admin.
  • There is always at least one owner. The last owner can't leave or delete their account. Make someone else owner first.

Inviting colleagues

  1. Go to Organization, tab Members, and choose Invite someone.
  2. Enter the email address and choose a Role. The default is Technician.
  3. Choose Invite.

Your colleague needs a BoilerBuddy account; if they don't have one, ask them to sign up first. No email is sent: they see the invitation in the bell and on their Organization page, where they choose Accept. So let them know it's there.

Changing roles and removing members

Next to each member you pick the role from a list. Remove member takes someone out of the company or withdraws an invitation; they lose access right away. You can't change your own role, and only an owner changes owners. To leave yourself, use Leave organization.

Switching between your own account and the installer

Switch with the menu under your name, bottom left: under Switch to, choose the installer or Your own devices. While you work in the installer, the company's name is under the logo. Switching decides where a new device goes and who pays for it, which menu you see (in the installer it includes Overview, Alerts and Customers), and what the Subscription page shows. With your own devices you see the portal like any homeowner, without Organization.

You don't need to switch to look at a device: the Devices list shows everything you can reach. Do check that the company's name is under the logo before you add a device, or it ends up on your own account.

Alerts per member

Each member decides whether to get alerts about the company's devices, with Alerts for these devices: on or off below the member list. New members start with it on. It also covers devices customers share with you or that you handed over to a customer.

Alerts arrive in the bell, and by email if Alerts by email is also on in your profile. More in Alerts.

Managing customers' devices at their request

A customer who has their own Alpo can ask you to manage it. They share the device with the role Installer, turn on The whole installation company and enter the email address of an owner or admin at your company. That person sees the request in the bell and on Organization under Requests from customers, and chooses Accept or Decline.

From then on all your technicians can work on it, new ones too. You can view and set up the device; sharing, handing over, deleting and pairing again stay with the customer. It is not on your subscription, and the customer can stop sharing at any time.

If the customer shares it with one technician, only that technician sees it. So ask the customer to choose the whole installation company instead.
