Alerts

Which alerts BoilerBuddy sends, what they mean and what to check.

When something goes wrong with your solar water heater, you get an alert. When it is fixed, you hear that too.

Where you see them

  • By email, with what is wrong, since when and what you can check. The emails are in Dutch for now.
  • In the portal, under the bell at the top, on the dashboard and on your device's Alerts tab.
  • If you work in an installer company, the alerts of all your devices are together under Alerts in the menu (see All your devices at a glance).

Alerts go to you, and to anyone you shared the device with Send alerts switched on (see Sharing and locations).

What an alert means

An alert only goes out once a problem has lasted a while. That way a short glitch doesn't send you an email.

Alert What is going on What to check
Device offline Your BoilerBuddy Alpo has not reported for 15 minutes. Whether the Alpo has power and your internet works.
Sensor sends no reading A probe has not sent a good reading for a while. The probe's wiring and its connection to the controller.
Sensor fault The controller reports a fault with a probe. Whether the probe is loose or damaged, and its connection to the controller.
Collector overheated The solar panel has been above 120 °C for a while. Whether the pump runs and whether there is enough pressure on the installation.
Pump not running The collector is much warmer than the tank, but the pump is off. Your tank is not heating up. The pump, the fuse and the controller's setting.
Pump running without heat The pump runs, but the collector is not warmer than the tank. The pressure, whether there is air in the system, and whether the collector probe sits properly in place.
Sensor stuck A temperature has not changed for a day. Whether the probe is loose or broken.

The exact limits for your device are on the Alerts tab, under Rules.

  • Pump not running is the most important alert and is marked Critical. It stays quiet when your tank is 80 °C or hotter: with a full tank the controller switches the pump off on purpose.
  • Collector overheated is a warning, not a fault. With strong sun and a full tank a collector runs hot. If the alert does not fit your installation, switch it off.

Not sure, or does the installation need work? Call your installer. You can give them access: see Sharing and locations.

How often you get email

You get one email when a problem starts and one when it is fixed. If the same problem comes back within a few hours, you see it in the portal but get no new email. If an outage is on our side, we don't email you that your Alpo is offline.

Fewer alerts

  • An alert doesn't fit your installation? Switch it off on the Alerts tab, under Rules. This applies to everyone who gets alerts about this device. A viewer cannot do this.
  • Rather no email? In your Profile, under Alerts, switch off Alerts by email. You still see them in the portal.
  • A device someone shared with you? Turn its alerts off on that device's page with the Alerts on button.

When no alerts come

  • While the Alpo is offline, you only get that alert. Without readings we cannot check the rest.
  • Without a trial or subscription we don't check your device. No alerts come, not even in the portal. See Subscription.
