Sharing and locations
Giving someone access to your device, grouping your devices by place, and handing a device over when you move.
Let your partner or your installer keep an eye on your solar water heater too. You can also group your devices by place, and hand a device over when you move.
Giving someone access
You share a device with someone as Viewer or as Installer:
| Viewer | Installer | You (owner) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| View the dashboard, charts, savings, alerts and installation details | yes | yes | yes |
| Change the name, location, circuit and installation details | no | yes | yes |
| Switch an alert off | no | yes | yes |
| Share, pair, hand over and delete | no | no | yes |
People you share with pay nothing: the subscription belongs to the owner.
Inviting someone
The other person needs their own BoilerBuddy account first.
- Go to Devices, choose the device and go to Settings.
- Under Shared with, choose Give someone access and enter the email address of their account.
- Choose the Role: Viewer or Installer.
- Leave Send alerts on if they should get alerts too.
- Choose Share.
They get no email, only a notification under the bell: so let them know yourself. They see the device once they accept the invitation on their Devices page. Until then it says Invited on your side.
Inviting someone who manages an installation company? Also switch on The whole installation company with the Installer role. All the company's technicians then have access, new ones too.
Want to change a role? Invite the same person again with the other role.
Alerts and stopping
When you invite someone, you choose whether they get alerts. After that it is up to them, with Alerts on or Alerts off on the device's page.
Want to stop sharing? Choose the icon next to the person under Shared with and confirm Stop sharing. That is also how you withdraw an invitation. If someone shared a device with you, you stop yourself with Stop following.
Locations
Do you have devices in more than one place, such as at home and in a holiday home? Group them by location. A location only organizes: it gives nobody access.
- Creating a location: on the device's page, choose Edit, and under Location choose New location…. This is also where you fill in the Place in the building, such as "Attic".
- Changing or deleting: the Devices page lists your devices by location. The pencil next to a location's name lets you change or delete it. The devices then stay, without a location.
Everyone who sees a device also sees the name and description of its location. So don't put anything in the description a viewer should not read.
Handing over when you move
Selling your house and leaving the BoilerBuddy Alpo behind? Hand the device over to the new owner. From then on they pay its subscription.
- Go to the device, Settings, and under Hand over choose Hand over.
- Enter the E-mail of the new owner. They need a BoilerBuddy account.
- Choose Offer handover.
The new owner chooses Take over on their Devices page, under Devices offered to you. Until then you can Withdraw the offer.
Once taken over:
- You no longer see the device, unless the new owner shares it with you.
- The readings go with it. The Alpo keeps sending: no need to pair it again.
- People you shared it with keep their access, your installer too. The new owner can stop that.
- The location is removed. The new owner chooses their own.
An account can have at most five devices. If the new owner already has five, the takeover does not go through.
